Is It Time for Your Family to Get a Cat? How Milo Joined Ours

We hadn’t had a cat in years. Getting one wasn’t really on our radar—until a trip to Greece started changing our minds.

My wife, Laura, is a travel agent with Whimsy and Wander Travel, and one of the unexpected highlights of our time in Greece was meeting some great outdoor cats. Somewhere between enjoying the scenery and making a few feline friends, we started thinking it might be time to have a cat in our home again.

Apparently, the timing was perfect.

Three Kittens and One Very Good Match

Somehow, my parents ended up rescuing three abandoned kittens from underneath a house. Just as Laura and I were warming up to the idea of getting a cat, there were three little ones needing homes.

We decided to take one off their hands, and that’s how Milo joined our family.

His name is pronounced “Me-Low.” Doesn’t that sound Greek? After the cats we met on our trip helped inspire this whole thing, it seems fitting.

He’s been great. After years without a cat, it’s been fun having one around again—and seeing how naturally he’s become part of our family.

Connor and Milo Have Plenty of Time for Each Other

The best part has been watching Milo with our son, Connor.

Connor has special needs, and he and Milo both seem to have so much time for each other. There’s something really sweet about that. Neither one seems to be in a hurry to move on to the next thing. They’re happy spending time together.

As a parent, those simple moments mean a lot. We thought we were bringing home a kitten, but watching their friendship develop has made the decision even more special.

Is Your Family Ready for a Cat?

Getting a pet is a commitment, so it’s worth thinking about whether your family has the time, patience, and room in the budget to care for one. Kittens need attention, and the responsibility lasts long after the excitement of bringing them home.

But if you’ve been considering it, I can tell you our experience has been a good one. We hadn’t had a cat in years, and now Milo is giving us plenty of reasons to be glad we tried again.

Sometimes the timing comes together in a way you couldn’t have planned: a trip to Greece, a few friendly cats, parents rescuing kittens from under a house, and a little guy named Milo who turns out to be a wonderful fit.

At Tye Realty Group, we spend a lot of time helping people find a place for their families to call home. In our own home, lately, one of my favorite sights is Connor spending time with his new little friend.
