Closer to Family: What Moving to McKinney Has Meant for Us

In real estate, we spend a lot of time talking about square footage, kitchens, and backyard space. Those things matter. But sometimes, the biggest improvement a move brings is having the people you love a little closer.

Our family experienced that this past year when we helped my wife’s parents move to McKinney.

My wife, Laura, is from Houston, and she’s an only child. More than 20 years ago, her parents moved to North Texas so we could be closer to each other. Having them make that move meant a lot to us. It gave us the opportunity to share more of our lives and build memories together over the years.

They settled in Robson Ranch, over by Argyle. It was a wonderful place for them, and there was a lot to love about living there. But even though we were all in North Texas, we were still about an hour apart.

An Hour Can Make Visits More Complicated

An hour doesn’t sound like much until you’re trying to fit a visit into an already busy week. With work, kids, and everyday responsibilities, a round trip could be hard to work into the day.

We could get together, of course, but it usually took some planning. That distance made the quick, everyday visits harder—the kind where you stop by for a little while without needing to set aside a big part of the day.

There’s a meaningful difference between being close enough for a planned visit and being close enough to see each other more naturally.

Helping Them Make the Move to McKinney

Just this past year, we helped Laura’s parents move to McKinney, and it has been amazing having them nearby.

The best part is being able to see each other more often. Getting together is easier, and spending time with family fits more comfortably into our everyday lives.

Every visit doesn’t have to be a special occasion. Sometimes, having the freedom to spend a little time together is what makes being close so valuable.

For Laura, especially as an only child, having her parents nearby means a lot. And for our family as a whole, it has been a reminder of how much location can affect daily life.

Choosing a Home Around the Life You Want

As a real estate broker, I help people think through location all the time. We talk about work commutes, neighborhood amenities, schools, and the feel of a community. Proximity to family deserves a place in that conversation, too.

A home can be wonderful and still be farther from the people you want to see than you’d like. Robson Ranch was wonderful for Laura’s parents. Moving to McKinney gave our family something we had been missing: the ease of being nearby.

Every family’s circumstances are different, and moving closer isn’t always possible or the right decision. But if you’ve been considering it, I can say from personal experience that those shorter drives can make a real difference.

More Time Together

Laura’s parents moved to North Texas more than 20 years ago to be closer to us. This latest move has made that connection even easier to enjoy.

Helping them find a home in McKinney was special for me, both professionally and personally. We were helping them choose a place that would bring our family closer together in everyday life.

At Tye Realty Group, we understand that a move often means much more than a new address. Sometimes, it means getting to see the people you love more often. This past year has reminded me just how much that matters.

If you’re considering a move to be closer to family in McKinney or the surrounding North Texas area, we’d be glad to help you explore your options.
